phenomenon: spatial merging
The lack of natural light was the hardest thing to get used to. The dungeon had no windows, no doors, no skylights. Lancelot had only the rhythm of the guards to get a sense of what time was down here. He would be able to hear patrols through the wall in his cell and then there would be the stingy meal that he got twice a day.
The rhythm of the "day" would continue as such. All these little details became more important the longer that he stayed trapped here. At first it was tedious, trying to empty his mind in a way that he would not betray his own values - but he was patient. Lancelot believed that he was of good character, because if he did not he would be a poor excuse of a knight. Even though his foundations may have been shaken deeply in the past, he would learn and get better. Even if he would never get the same level of grace and honour that Siegfried displayed on a regular basis, if Lancelot would display a fraction of that - then he would be happy.
He had hope inside of him that someone would find him, someone would come for him and rescue him from this dire situation. No matter how much his body was beaten, his spirit would remain that of a proud knight.
But thinking in a reverie would only give you so much relief from a situation as dire as this. Lancelot experimentally shakes the shackles holding him to the wall before sighing. Still as sturdy and unyielding as always. Occasionally he would imagine the shackles coming loose from age, but he had made sure that the dungeons were well maintained.
He laughs to himself as he readjusts himself to be comfortable. If only he wasn't so thorough at doing his job, he wouldn't be stuck here still.
